Astor Theatre – Casual FOH Floor Staff
The Astor Theatre is currently taking applications for Casual FOH Floor Staff. Applicants must have experience in cinema related and/or hospitality operations role. The positions require evening and weekend availability on a rostered basis, either casual or part-time, with shift duration between 3-5 hours; expected shift requirements to be discussed at interview. There may be private hire events, film festivals and other instances that require you to work additional and often late hours. Applicants must be honest, reliable and flexible. The work is often challenging and fast-paced and excellent time-management skills are required. Applicants must have a desire to work in a unique movie theatre environment, and know that the job is an important embodiment to the success and future survival of The Astor.

Key Responsibilities – Shift Tasks
Responding to and carrying out all tasks efficiently and effectively as per your Shift Supervisor’s instructions. Predominantly, but not limited to the following:
- Ushering: tearing tickets, carefully and safely showing patrons to their seats, tidying foyers and maintaining the aesthetic presentation of the venue, changing poster displays and light bulbs at the request of your Shift Supervisor, emptying and cleaning rubbish bins, restocking the candy bar.
- Candy Bar: serving customers, accurate cash handling, making Astor Theatre choc-ices, carrying/lifting stock (sometimes including film canisters) to and from downstairs candy bar, stock rooms and upstairs candy bar.
- Adhering to Astor Theatre OHS, Customer Service and Management guidelines.

FOH Shift Supervisor – Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities – FOH Shift Supervisor
- To open and close the venue safely and securely.
- To prepare and reconcile daily cinema takings accurately and efficiently, ensuring ticket box and candy bar staff have completed their EFT/cash reconciliation correctly.
- To effectively monitor and co-ordinate FOH floor staff; ensuring they adhere to core duties and carry out professional conduct at all times.
- To manage staff shift alterations and to ensure every shift is sufficiently and appropriately staffed.
- To delegate floor duties to each member of FOH floor staff at the commencement of their shift and to ensure these duties are diligently carried out.
- To report to cinema management any issues or grievances concerning FOH staff and where necessary to resolve these issues effectively and fairly.
Key Duties – FOH Shift Supervisor
- To be responsible for opening and closing the Candy Bar. This includes but is not limited to preparing popcorn, choc-ices, tea, coffee and candy bar stock replenishment.
- To co-ordinate candy bar stock ordering, monitor stock rotation and sales.
- To provide and ensure FOH staff provide an always pleasant, warm, and comfortable environment for all Astor Theatre patrons.
- To report to cinema management any issues or grievances concerning customer service and where necessary to resolve these issues effectively and fairly.
Key Responsibilities – FOH Venue & OHS Guidelines
- To understand, implement and re-enforce the Venue’s OHS & Evacuation procedures, ensuring the safety of both staff & visitors to the venue.
- To prepare, present and maintain the Venue to its highest possible standard. This includes but is not limited to lighting, heating/cooling and the general cleanliness of the building. (Cleaner/s are employed)
- To be dedicated to developing and maintaining a safe, secure and comfortable environment for both FOH staff and visitors to the venue. This includes but is not limited to adhering to Astor Theatre’s various staff access areas and the responsible handling of confidential and sensitive data.
- Adhering to all operational guidelines as specified by the Astor Theatre’s cinema management team.

- Making, teaching and supervising staff to make choc-ices as per Astor regulations.
- Making popcorn, tea, coffee and on occasion heating and serving hot foods.
- At the start of every shift counting and setting up Ticket Box & Candy Bar float & spare float.
- At the end of every shift safely reconciling and storing monies in the safe.
- Responsible for turning on and turning off theatre lights, locking and unlocking theatre doors including checking of security of the venue prior to departure.
- Carrying/lifting stock to and from downstairs candy bar, stock rooms and upstairs candy bar.
- Setting up plants and poster displays in foyers and at theatre front and generally an eye for aesthetic presentation of the venue.
- Feeding Marzipan (our resident cat), emptying and re-filling her litter tray and making sure she is safe in the theatre at the end of the night.
If it is good for all of us towork for and at the Astor so be it.
